Bakari Burns is aware of the ties to racism within the health care industry.

The president CEO of Orange Blossom Family Health — who also is an Orlando City Commissioner — pointed to an example: the spirometer, a device used to measure lung function. The device at one point was used to justify keeping Black people enslaved, stating that because of their lung function, they had less mental capacity, Burns told Orlando Business Journal.
